Timeline
- 1853 - Levi Strauss & Co begins in San Francisco, California
- 1855 - Leaves of Grass published
- 1857 - Wreck of the SS Central America (Sept 3) (meets survivor 30 yrs later)
- 1865 - Civil War ended
- 1884 - Leaves of Grass edition which was gifted to GOIV
- 1890 - Ear Inn postcard postmark (Feb 8)
- 1892 - Rochester Hotel built; GOIV refers to it as "a newer establishment"
- 1892 - Walt Whitman dies on March 26, 1892 - GOIV hears the news in Durango
- 1893 - Nathan Strauss commits suicide on October 25 and dies at Chambers Street Hospital at 12:12 P.M.[1][2]
- 1896 - GOIV disappearance
